Is the 3.15am curse finally lifting?

Sleep. That thing that’s supposed to come naturally, refresh us, and help us feel ready to take on the day... has been my nemesis for years.

I’ve struggled with insomnia for as long as I can remember. It’s not just the occasional restless night... it’s been a real, ongoing battle. I’ve tried everything: lavender sprays, sleep podcasts, fancy teas, ditching caffeine, sticking to a strict bedtime routine, even doing yoga at 10pm because someone online swore it worked. I’ve been involved in sleep studies. I’ve sat in front of doctors explaining the same thing over and over, only to try different medications that either didn’t work or made me feel worse.

But the most frustrating part? Waking up like clockwork at 3.15am. Every night. It didn’t matter what time I went to bed, how tired I was, or how relaxed I felt beforehand... 3.15am would come and bam, wide awake. No reason. No noise. Just this annoying, automatic body alarm I never signed up for. And once I was awake, that was usually it. Hours of tossing and turning, checking the time every 20 minutes, and mentally preparing for the tired fog I knew would hang over me the next day.

Well… something happened last night that gave me hope. Real hope.

I woke up. Rolled over. Glanced at the clock…3.15am. 😩 My heart sank. Not again…

But this time, I felt calm. My mind didn’t immediately spiral into a hundred thoughts. I didn’t reach for my phone or start stressing. I just turned over and tried to relax again.

This morning, I checked my sleep tracker, expecting the usual pattern of being awake for ages. But nope. Awake at 3.14am. Back asleep by 3.23am.That's HUGE. 🙌

And here’s what I think has helped.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been taking two supplements consistently. I didn’t expect miracles, and I’m always a bit skeptical of trends, but I wanted to give them a fair go – and now, I’m genuinely impressed.

🧘‍♀️ Ashwagandha – an adaptogen known for helping with stress and anxiety.🛌 Magnesium – great for muscle relaxation, nervous system support, and aiding sleep (my exact brand seems to be out of stock, but this one is very similar).

I’m not saying these are magic pills, but something has shifted – and for the first time in years, I feel like my body is actually learning how to rest again.

Of course, everyone’s different. What works for me might not work for you. But if you’re someone who lies awake in the middle of the night, watches the clock tick, and feels like you’ve tried everything, it might be worth looking into these. Especially if stress or anxious thoughts are a part of the problem.

Even just waking up and being able to drift off again in under 10 minutes feels like such a win. I can’t remember the last time that happened.

So here’s to hoping that the dreaded 3.15am curse is finally breaking — and if you’re on your own sleep journey right now, please know you’re not alone. I see you. I was you. And maybe, just maybe, there’s a small shift waiting to happen for you too. 💛
